He was predeceased by: his parents, Levi E. Bontreger and Fannie Mae Bontreger (Kauffman); his wife Lois Kaufman (Whitehead); his son Kent Bontreger; his sisters, Mary K. Miller and Ann Bahr; and his stepson Charles Kaufman.
He is survived by: his son Tim Bontreger (Laurie) of Goshen; his daughter-in-law Becky Bontreger of Middlebury; his grandchildren, Tori Blosser (Brad), Amy Stutzman, Jamie Cross (Naomi), Kristian Bontreger (Shana) and Michael Cross (Bridgett); his brother Thomas Bontreger of Middlebury; and his stepchildren, Gail Brumbaugh (Kevin) and Donald Kaufman (Kris). He is also survived by nine great grandchildren; a great-great grandson.
