He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald L. Bates and Lois M. Bates (Disney); his siblings, Don Helton, Jim Bates, Pamela Bates and Donna Olson; and his nephew Craig Crysphen.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Gard; his children, Steven Bates (Michelle) and Susan Bates (Stephen Thompson); his grandchildren, Madison, Savannah, Nichole, Mackenzie, Chase, Emile, Ender, Ezula, Emmanuel, Ekira, Ezio and Eviva; and his sisters, Joyce Weaver (Stan) and Deanna Fortier (Ed).
