He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Shalaty and Sophia Shalaty (Hojnacki); his son Frank E. Shalaty; and his siblings, Veronica Mucci and John Shalaty.

He is survived by: his wife Janet Shalaty (Walker); his daughters, Faith Pollock and Megan Retzlaff (Dan); his grandchildren, Amanda LoCicero (Josh), Bethany Pollock, Catie Schrameyer (Brandon), Emmett Retzlaff and Jasper Retzlaff; his great grandchildren, Bella, Vincent, Jace and Bennett; and his sister Francine (Don).
