He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry "Tom" and Mary Elizabeth Soergel Houghton; and his former wife Sally Ann Graft Houghton. He is survived by: his wife Billie Fetz Houghton; his children, Gregg Houghton, Michael Fetz, Kurt Fetz, Victoria Ann Houghton, Cindy Messmer, Julie Coleman and Heather Lucid; and his brother James Houghton. He is also survived by Thirteen grandchildren and 7 Great grandchildren.

The family suggest in lieu of flowers donations be made to Crusade for Children.
