He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Emerson and Helen Emerson (Baker); his wife Catherine Emerson (Hanger); his son Terry Emerson; and his sisters, Nancy Johnson and Wilma Tinsley.

He is survived by: his sons, David Emerson (Patti) and Kevin Emerson (Carrie); and his brother Roy Emerson. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
