He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard M. Dorton and Betty A. Dorton (Wright); his grandfather Thomas A. Dorton; his brother-in-law Bill Vannatter; and his nephews, Doug and Andy Vannatter.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Dorton (Richards); and his siblings, Richard Dorton (Carol), Beverly Hoopingarner (Ron) and Joe Dorton (Juli). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Gaston United Methodist Church, Wes-Del School, and / or the Gaston American Legion.
