He was predeceased by: his parents, Roscoe Shirar and Mamie Shirar (Davis); and his siblings, Robert "Bob" Shirar, Wilbur Shirar and Carol L. David.
He is survived by: his wife Marion Ellen Shirar of Gas City; his children, Timothy O. Shirar (Debbie) of North Manchester and Brenda Warf (Dannis) of Shelbyville, IL; and his grandchildren, Braxton Shirar (Elizabeth) of Ft. Wayne, Chad Shirar (Stacy Allsup) of San Diego, CA, John Shirar (Tarryn) of Montpelier, Timmy Shirar (Kayona) of Parker City, Christopher Aultman (Carrie) of Sumrall, MS, Katie Neil (Marcus) of Shelbyville, IL, Cody Baker (Hannah Severin) of St Louis, MO and Clayton Baker of Shelbyville, IL. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
