He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Matheny and Olie Harrison Matheny; his brothers, Cleveland Matheny and Kenyatta Kassim; and his mother-in-law Warnell McCarley.
He is survived by: his wife Juanita of Gary, Indiana; his daughter Attorney Donya Matheny Strong; his son-in-law Ronnie Strong; his grandsons, Courtland of Clayton and Zachary of Clayton; his sister Peggy Stevenson of Indianapolis, Indiana; his sisters-in-law, Ruby Matheny of Chicago and Angela Matheny of Gary, Indiana; his uncle Frank Matheny (Hattie) of Indianapolis, Indiana; and his aunts, Mildred Powels of Memphis, Beatrice Matthews of Flint and Bettie Simmons of Calumet City, Illinois. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
