He is survived by: his wife Elsie Powell; his children, Michelle Cowart, Virgil Powell III, Vanessa Powell, Jason Powell (Maegan) and Amanda Powell (Ray); his grandchildren, Elissa Cowart, Raylynn Powell, Raymond Powell and Bryson Powell; his grandfather Ralph Oldham; and his siblings, Barbara Johnson, Shirley Pennington, Robert Johnson and Patrick Powell.
