He was predeceased by: his mother Elizabeth Johnson; his brother John D. Shaw; his wife Jeanette Johnson; his son Tavares Johnson; and his nephews, Edward Jr., Michael and Danyelle.
He is survived by: his son Vernell; his siblings, Kwaume Johnson of Indianapolis, IN and Gloria Robinson (Edward) of Gary; his nieces and nephews, Robert Johnson of Summit, MS, Perry Johnson, Larry Johnson (Marie) and Bobby Johnson (Diane); and his cousins, Chanae Robinson, Tyler Jones, Andre Johnson and LaChandra Hueston (Lamar).
