He is survived by: his wife Barbara Gates; his children, Anthony Gates (Felicia), Cecilia Gates and Samuel Gates (Brianna); his godson Arthur Gates (Kelly); his siblings, Jimmie Lee Gates, Robert Gates (Mildred) and Islean Hunter; his siblings-in-law, Johnnie Ruth Gates, Diane Gates, Angelic Bailey (Erik), LueRetha Booker (Martin), Evelyn Rhenwrick, Gwen Rhenwrick, Michele Thomas (Eugene), Brenda Byndum, Rhonda Byndum, Latanya Byndum, Lafrance Rhenwrick, Clyde Byndum Jr. (Angie), Bernard Byndum and Jerry Dozier (Gloria); and his grandchildren, LarRay Short (Ray), Anthony Gates II (Boss), Kayla Malone (Pooh) and Samuel Gates Jr. (Red). He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
