He was predeceased by: his wife Elaine; his parents, Walter Smith and Mary Smith; and his brothers, Gene and James.

He is survived by: his children, Mark Smith (Diana), Scott Smith (Kay) and Cathy Hopper (JR); his grandchildren, Christopher (Jackie), Daniel, Lauren (Joseph), Matthew (Amanda) and Carter; and his great grandchildren, Sydney, Harrison, Elizabeth and Amelia.
