He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Doherty; his sons, Kenneth and Shawn Doherty; his grandson David; and his brother Mark Doherty.
He is survived by: his children, Patrick Doherty (Wanda), Mary Young (Jim), Kevin Doherty (Holly) and Maureen Doherty; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Victor), Brendan (Kirsten), Caitlin (Scott), McKenah, Connor, Elizabeth, Liam and Norah; his great grandchildren, Kinsley, Isbel, Arianna and Avalynn; his niece Kristine Smock; and his nephew George Doherty.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages anyone who wants to donate to make donations to diabetes or dementia research, prevention, and treatment.
