He was predeceased by: his parents, Alejandro Diaz (Jando) and Ignacia Diaz (Nacha); and his brother Miguel Diaz (Mike). He is survived by: his wife Sofie Ogrizovich-Diaz; his children, Jenny Diaz, Edna Diaz, Ivette Mahedo (Benny), Evelyn Diaz, Lisa Diaz and Deedee Gonzalez (Turo); his grandchildren, Anthony Watkins, Jesenia Ryan, Simon Olivarez, Richie Gonzalez, Diamond Galvan, Jelah Winfield and Ari Gonzalez; his sister-in-law Josephine Diaz (Chefa); his mother-in-law Amalie Ogrizovich; his brother-in-law Mane Ogrizovich (Sonja); and his grandchildren, Tito Puente, Jerry Rivera, Andy Montanez and Tito Nieves. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
