He was predeceased by: his parents, Herschel Vail and Frances Vail (Winters); his wife Lois A. Vail (Day); his son Harry L. "Buddy" Vail, Jr.; his grandson Henry "Eddie" Vail; and his siblings, Patricia Allen, Cindy Ash, Doris "Susie" Dice, Gloria Linville, Judy Hauntz, Herschel Vail, Jr., Ronald Edward Vail and Kenneth Wayne Vail.
He is survived by: his children, Ron Vail (Penny) of Laurel and Sherri Stout (William) of Greensburg; his siblings, Donnie Vail (Teresa) of Laurel, Beverly Fromm, Frances Isaacs of Connersville and Debbie Grizzell of Laurel; his grandchildren, Trisha Dawn Race (John), Jessica Wynn (Josh) and Willie Stout; and his great grandchildren, Kelsey Vail, Tyler Vail, Easton Vail, Gracie Wilson, RJ Race, Autumn Wynn, Aubrey Wynn, Aurora Wynn and Ada Wynn.
