He was predeceased by: his parents, Bessie Orena Gosman Underwood and Clifford Earl Underwood; his son Douglas Earl Underwood; his brother Martin "Marty" Underwood; and his nephews, Rich Hatton and Allan Robbins.
He is survived by: his fiancée Dianna Zimmerman Brummett of Franklin, Indiana; his children, Melinda Franklin (Jon) of Surry, Virginia and Rob Underwood (Jessica) of Illinois; his grandson Trevor Franklin; his sisters, Sandra Beatty (Mark) of Columbus and Edna Hatton (Richard) of Lexington, Indiana; his mother-in-law Margaret Zimmerman of Franklin, Indiana; his daughter-in-law Annette Lane (Joe); and his grandchildren, Katie Fewell (Luke) and Courtney Lane. He is also survived by several future great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews.
