He was predeceased by: his father James Samuel Wessell, Jr.; his stepson Justin Sanders; and his grandparents, Medford, Gladys Donoho, James Samuel and Loretta Wessell, Sr..

He is survived by: his mother Christina J. Wessell, Jr. (Donoho) of Enterprise, AL; his sons, James Samuel Wessell IV of Frankfort, Jesse James Wessell of Frankfort and Jacob Samuel Wessell of Frankfort; his stepsons, Jarrod Sanders of Frankfort and Joshua Sanders of Noblesville; his brothers, Brett A. Wessell of Frankfort, Magnum Wessell of Enterprise, AL and Colt A. Wessell of Frankfort; and his stepbrother Christopher Amptmeyer.
