He was predeceased by: his mothers, Frieda Herbst (Goodman) and Nora Herbst (Cookie); his wife Nora (Cookie); his sons, Donald J. Herbst and Dennis K. Herbst; and his siblings, Arlene, Henrietta Messman, Leona Meeks, Roberta Borden and Albert Herbst.

He is survived by: his siblings, Laurence Herbst and Donna Cooley; and his grandchildren, Justin Herbst, Natasha Elson (Cole), Kristyn Garabedian and Brittany Lamson (Joey). He is also survived by seven great grandchildren.
