He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert W. Merkamp and Eva M. Wissler Merkamp; his granddaughter Olivia Jean Merkamp; his daughter-in-law Cathy Rummel; and his siblings, Erpha Lucille Baumer, Ruth Eileen Nocton and Kenneth Robert Merkamp.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Wright Merkamp; and his children, Gary Merkamp (Donna), Tom Merkamp, David Merkamp (Tina), Stuart Merkamp (Tammi), Lori Carboneau (Mark), Julie Conrad (Kenny) and Daniel Merkamp (Courtney). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
