He was predeceased by: his mother Ruth Schmidt; and his daughter Theresa. He is survived by: his wife Marsha; his children, Gregory (Emma), Todd (Tiffany), Scott (Rhonda), Matt Schmidt and Michelle Ahrens (Mark); and his sister-in-law Janet Van Horn (Greg). He is also survived by great-grandchildren.

Preferred memorials are to the Wounded Warrior Project.
