He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Berning and Alma Berning; and his siblings, Robert, Norman, Ruth and Henry.
He is survived by: his wife Carol; his daughter Lee Ann Berning; his friend Rita LeFavour; his sons, William Berning (Nancy) and Mark Berning (Krista); his granddaughters, Megan, Katherine, Jaclyn, Gwen and Samantha; and his caregiver Linda Rohr. He is also survived by 3 great grandchildren.
Bill was a founding member of the Concordia Education Foundation and was an inductee of the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame.
