He was predeceased by: his parents, Tolar Thompson and Goldie Thompson (Massey); his wife Jessie M. Thompson (Estes); his sons, Martin M. Thompson and Stephen D. Thompson; and his siblings, MacRay, John, Billie Lou Thompson and Jacqueline Norris.

He is survived by: his children, Mart, John P. Thompson (Mary Ann) of Wheaton, IL, Timothy J. Thompson of Decatur, IN and Margaret Roseann Lerum (Wade) of Monroeville, IN; his sisters, Barbara Huff (Smith) and Trena Bowen; and his grandchildren, Christopher Thompson (Rachel), Philip Thompson (Sarah) of Savanah, GA, Michael Thompson and Mary Kate Thompson of Thornton, CO. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his honor may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
