He was predeceased by: his parents, William Vandervelde and Alice Vandervelde (Helms); and his daughter Ann Vandervelde Appel. He is survived by: his wife Judith E. Vandervelde; his son David Vandervelde (Barbara); his son-in-law Scott Appel; his grandchildren, Evan Appel (Natalie), Austin Appel and Ashley Vandervelde-Robinson (Austin); his great grandchild William Vandervelde Appel; and his sister Opal Longino.
