He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruth Kerr and Raleigh Nelson; his wife Phyllis A. Butts; his sister Suzanne Schreiner; his stepbrother William Nelson (Bill); and his son-in-law Allen Boehnlien.
He is survived by: his children, Jim Nelson, Pam Boehnlein, David Nelson (Michelle), Eric Nelson (Kelley) and Beth (Chris); his grandchildren, Megan, Lauren, Alexa, Matt, Cheyanne, Ari, Jack, Sam, Alena, Sara, Maddie, Gavin and Dylan; his great grandchildren, Cienna, Addison, Natalie, Graison, Mila, Quinn, Rowan, Bryce and Andi; his brother Lloyd Nelson (Diane); and his close friend Sandy Shanbeck. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
