Joanne Marie (Cannon) Shropshire Obituary
JOANNE MARIE CANNON SHROPSHIRE, 87, Was born on May 23, 1936 in Dayton Ohio. (Joanne's age has always been an "Unlisted Number".) God sent for His weary servant on Monday, June 12, 2023.
Joanne was the only child of Joe and Gaynelle Cannon who proceeded her in death. Joanne was raised by her mother in Richmond, Indiana and graduated from Richmond High School.
She worked at Wayne Pipe and Supplies for 31 years and part-time as a nursing assistant.
She professed Christ at an early age. She enjoyed traveling to many churches with her mother as a child. Joanne's mother encouraged her to explore her many talents. She taught her clever poems which she could still recite in adulthood. Joanne found her true talent in music.
She sang and played the piano by ear. She played for her home church and many others in the city.
As a young adult, Joanne moved to Fort Wayne where she joined Christ Temple Apostolic Church.
She was a member of Greater Living Epistle / House of Yahweh Church for many years, Jesus Name Apostolic Church for several years and a current member of Abundant Life Church (UPC). She loved playing the piano and leading songs. Joanne was quick to tell you about the many Blessings her Heavenly Father bestowed on her. She always had a tune to go along with those Blessings.
Joanne was joined in wedlock to JD Shropshire, who, proceeded her in death, for 35 years. Although they did not have children of their own, she embraced JD's children Adrian and Dianna Shropshire. As well as many other children. She enjoyed teaching them to recite poetry and to sing little songs she and her mom made up.
Joanne was well known around the city for her piano playing at different churches and nursing homes. Her beautiful voice carried across the room as she played the piano with perfection. She would break out in song anytime the thought she had, brought one to mind! She loved playing for hours with her friend's having a good old fashioned "Gospel Sing A Long".
She had a wonderful sense of humor often telling little jokes to make people laugh. Everyone who knew her knows that she had unwavering faith in her Heavenly Father!
You might find Joanne in church sitting at the piano or her favorite pew with the most outstanding gorgeous hat that you've ever seen. This "QueenAger" was color coordinated from head to toe. She loved shopping to put that final touch on her perfect outfit.
Joanne embraced the daughters of her dear friend, Johnnie. Making them her Angel Goddaughters. She loved her many nieces and nephew that she was blessed with through her union with J.D.
Precious memories will be cherished by her children, Adriana and Diana Shropshire. Brother-n-Law Henry Shropshire (Norma), Goddaughters; Colette Fluckus and Donna Howell (William), her special Angel Niece, Paula Sherman (Donald), and Special Angel Nephew, Harvey Shropshire as well as many nephews, nieces, close cousins, and a host of wonderful friends.
Joanne will be laid to rest with her husband JD in Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.
Rest well Jo, your heavenly Father has you in His Precious Arms now. Amen.
