He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Sakel and Elsie Sakel of Huntingburg, IN.; his wife Norma Sakel (Spengler); his grandson Michael Sakel; and his siblings, Marian Clem, Velma Berry and John Sakel.

He is survived by: his sons, David G. Sakel (Barbara) and Dr. Daniel E. Sakel (Sevina); his grandchildren, David A. Sakel, Amy Smith, Tori Wake (Ben) and Joseph Sakel; and his great grandchildren, Gracie, Vincent, Addy and William.

Memorial contributions may be given for Bibles in Don's memory to the Gideons International.

“I'm so sorry to hear that Don had passed away, I've known him since I was twelve years old. Later I worked for the school corporation and he was the principal at Floyd Central, we had a lot of interaction and. became friends. After we retired we kept in touch. He was a good man, kind and honest and I always enjoyed his company. I will miss him. Vicki Powell”
