He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Gates and Norma Gates (Ernsting); his parents-in-law, Claude and Emily Drahota; his siblings, Frank Gates and Ann Miner; and his brother-in-law Bill Drahota.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Drahota; his daughters, Melissa (Rob) of Fishers, IN and Molly (Erik) of Fishers, IN; his grandchildren, Nolan, Safina, Corinne, Griffin, Sevian, Miro, Georgi, Filip and Sofia; his sister Virginia; his sisters-in-law, Claudette Lynch and Patricia Drahota; his sister Marian; and his brother-in-law Roger Flink. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
