He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ames and Lucille Ames (Aker); his wife Marleen Kay Ames (Tharp); and his grandson Ethan C. Ames. He is survived by: his children, Kerry Ames (Corliss), Kim Ames (Gina), Kent Ames (Karen) and Lisa Long (Jerry); his sister Carolyn Parker; and his grandchildren, Kyle Ames (Melissa), Kole Ames (Brandy), Hannah Brooks (Garrett), Ashley Ames, Michael McCammack (Lori), Gabrielle McCammack and Luke Ames. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren.
