He is survived by: his wife Penney Carey (Chism); his children, April Ballard (Chad), Kathryn Carey and Clayton Carey; his grandchildren, Will Muir, Katelyn Ballard and Katlyn Whited; his great grandchild Makinlee Muir; his mother Mary Kathryn Byrd Carey; and his siblings, Sandra Bradley (Frank), Sue Ann Day (David) and Richard Carey. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
