He was predeceased by: his parents, John Mehling and Ida Mehling (Schum); his daughter Rita Rahman; and his siblings, Edwin, Oscar, Robert, Sylvester Mehling, Leona Becher and Alberta Begle.
He is survived by: his wife Imelda Buechler; his children, Richard Mehling (Jane) of Huntingburg, Ernest Mehling (Judy) of St. Anthony, Steve Mehling (Jackie) of Ferdinand, Russell Mehling (Patty) of Bristow, Kathy Ernst (Jim) of Huntingburg, Ruth Paulin (Tony) of Ferdinand and Lisa Mullis (Gene) of Ferdinand; his son-in-law Kenny Rahman of Ferdinand; his grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Shaun (Janelle Mehling), April Gogel, Courtney Treese, Jason Ernst, Jessica Eckstein, Chris (Brian Rahman), Nick (Jarret Paulin), Angela Evitts, Ashley Lueken, Chad Mullis, Brandi Schultz, Audrey Russell and Trevis Mattingly; his siblings, Elfreida Hedinger, Beata Mehling and Harold Mehling (Linda); and his siblings-in-law, Roman Becher, Herb Hedinger, Othmar Begle, Marie Mehling, Annetta Mehling and Ann Rach. He is also survived by 34 great grandchildren.
