Virgil I. Messel Obituary
Virgil I. Messel, 100, of Evansville, IN passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. He was born on March 3, 1924 in Knox County, IN to the late Charles and Ida (Soden) Messel. Virgil worked as a bus driver for EVSC for over 40 years. He served in the US Army and was a proud veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club and Old Tyme Auto Club. He adored his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 52 years, Mary Messel; son-in-law, Rich Mayes; brother, Arthur Messel and sister, Mabel Auslander. Virgil is survived by his daughters, Donna Brune (David) and Peggy Mayes; sons, Virgil A. Messel (Sheila) and Gary Messel (Lisa); grandchildren, Dalinda Jarvis, Tony Fritts, Robert Fritts, Kevin Mayes, Christa Mayes, Jeff Messel, Erin Messel, Isaac Messel, David Messel, Devon Hayes and Cale Messel; 18 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren and companion, Gayle Wimmenauer. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, officiated by Rev. Bobby Cox with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
