He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Avery and Idella Avery (Baker); his wife Dolores Avery; his sisters, Jean Keown and Marlen Hickerson; and his half-brother Delbert Haskin.
He is survived by: his son Ronald Avery (Debra); his grandchildren, Dan Avery, Jason Avery and Reagan Will (Ryan); his great grandchild Alexander Will; and his brother Marvin Avery (Millie). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
