With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Fred A. Schmitt of Elwood, Indiana, born in Wellsburg, West Virginia, who passed away on February 22, 2022 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, George Eugene and Sophia Elizabeth Schmitt (Blocker); and his siblings, Robert Schmitt, Peggy Loux and Dorothy Schmitt.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn A. Cass (Smith); his children, Penny Johns (Ron) of Summerville, SC, Fred Schmitt (Beth) of Frisco, TX, Andrew Schmitt (Jennifer) of Elwood, Richard Cass (Deanna) of Alexandria, Theresa Clymer of Elwood and Troy Cass (Teresa) of Marion; his grandchildren, Kyle Johns (Nicole), Kayla Higginbotham (Andy), Jacob Schmitt, Lucas Schmitt, Beau Schmitt, Erin Cass, Riley Cass, Carrie Arnett (Chris), Matthew Clymer (Amber), Ethan Cass and Hayden Cass; and his great grandchildren, Adalynn, Elyana, Lincoln and Wyatt.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood Elks Scholarship Fund.
