He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joseph Mitchell and Emma Benjamin; his former wife Roberta Joan Bittner; his wife Sarah Cook; and his children, Joyce Roberts of Ft. Worth, TX, Joseph William Mitchell of Elkhart, David M. Mitchell (Marcy) of South Bend, Debra A. DeShone (Tom) of South Bend and Denise D. Hruska of Hebron, IN. He was also cherished by 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be given to Heart-to-Heart Hospice or to Augustana Lutheran Church.
