He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Bud" Young and Lois Hazard Young; and his sister Julie Kain. He is survived by: his daughter Kori Simmons (Shawn) of Shelbyville; his grandchildren, Karli Gabbard, Gabbard of Nevada, Saige Simmons and Ida Simmons; his niece Jennifer Rager (Tom); his nephew Jason Kain (Emily) of Columbus; and his close friend George Meek (Becki) of Columbus. He is also survived by five great-nieces; one great-nephew and lifelong best friend.
