He was predeceased by: his father Charles Sams; and his siblings, Betty Rake (Rocky), Irene Sams, Shirley Peppler, Gary Sams (Angie) and Madeline Durbin.
He is survived by: his wife Vada Sams (Meek); his children, Richard Sams (Kim), Tracy Troutman (Tim) and Melvin "Micky" Sams, Jr. (Marilyn); his grandchildren, Amanda (Billy), Joshua (Kayla), Courtney, Hallie, Caden and Olivia (Matt); and his brother-in-law Jim Durbin. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
