She was predeceased by: her mother Marie Neider Schmidt; her stepfather Rolf Schmidt; her sister Ute Bauer; and her son Mario "Bobby" Schell. She is survived by: her husband Robert Schell; her siblings, Waltraud "Traudel" Lerch and Uwe Schmidt; her daughter Sandra Helene Avery (Mike); and her grandchildren, Melissa Wiseheart, Stephen Wiseheart (Morgan), Sarah Wiseheart (Ray Austin) and Michael Avery, Jr. (Erika Hoffman).
Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations in Karin's name to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
