Frank A. Drost Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Frank A. Drost (East Chicago, Indiana), who passed away on February 23, 2018, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his wife Caroline (Wilk); his son Frank John; his daughters-in-law, Ann Marie Drost (Trader) and Judith Drost (Carter); his parents, John Drost and Catherine Drost; and his brothers, Chester and Walter.
He is survived by: his children, Marilyn Learman (Frank) and Thomas; his brother Robert Drozd (Ilene); his sister-in-law Mila Wilk (late Frank); his granddaughter Christa Drost of Henderson, NV; his great grandchildren, Amber Drost-Samson and Autumn Drost-Samson; his nephews, Godson Tim Drozd, Sidney Givens and Becky Coleman; and also, Diane Drost, Christopher, Jacob, Timmy, Kacie, Kaylie, Frank Wyatt, Elijah, Amelia and Evelyn.
In 1969 Frank transferred to Plt. 4, 12" Bar Mill where he worked in the position of Profile Roll Grinder. Frank retired in November 1986 with 38 years of loyal service after having had triple bypass heart surgery.
Frank was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Whiting, an Arcelor Mittal 25-Year Club and Local 1010, USWA member, and a past participant of St. Catherine's Cardiac Rehab, were where he valued many friendships. Frank enjoyed frequenting Whiting's White Castle's and McDonald's Restaurants, and Whiting's downtown business district sharing conversation with the kind people who were so helpful to him.
Being the avid sports fan that he was, baseball was his favorite. Frank's youthful dream was to play baseball for one of the major leagues. He had a perfect left-hand pitch which led him to tryouts with the Chicago Cubs. At that time, Frank was selected for a pitcher position, however, he did not accept the offer. Instead, Frank put the love of his family before this dream and wholeheartedly gave it his best pitch.
Frank will be missed by his loving family and friends. Frank's family extends a "grateful thank you" to the compassionate care he received from the staff of Munster Med-Inn, Dr. Paula Benchik-Abrinko and Hospice of the Calumet Area. Friends may meet with the family on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 2 PM until 7 PM at LaHayne Funeral Home , 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN.
Lying in State will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 9:30 AM until time of Mass at 10 AM with Reverend Charles Niblick, Pastor officiating at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, IN.Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Calumet Area or St. Joseph Soup Kitchen of Hammond, IN would be appreciated.
