It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Ernestine McElroy of East Chicago, Indiana, born in Calumet City, Illinois, who passed away on February 29, 2024, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Virgus Nixon and Mattie Nixon (Barlow); her sister Anna; her significant other David McElroy; and her son Mark Chavis.
She is survived by: her daughters, Sandra Lane (Donald) of Lafayette and Gayle Edmond of Las Vegas, Nevada; her stepson David McElroy, Jr. (Belinda) of Seymour, Indiana; and her grandchildren, Tiffany Benjamin (Bill) of Louisville and Mark V. Chavis of Elkhart, Indiana. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
