He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernon Tanis and Catherine Marie Tanis; his siblings, Peter Tanis and Karen Tobak; and his former wife Charlotte Jean Tanis.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Tanis; his children, Barbara Hamner, Calvin, Mark and Peter Tanis; and his stepchildren, Terri Troglen, Kris Roberts, Quinn O'Sullivan, Robby O'Sullivan and Colleen O'Sullivan. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
