He was predeceased by: his daughter Teresa James; and his brothers, Thurman and Donald Carter. He is survived by: his wife Wanda of Moores Hill; his son Steven Carter; his grandchildren, Bryan James, Brandon James, Cheyenne Hountz, Kerissa Bolton, Gena Carter and Lakota Carter; and his siblings, Robert Carter (Katie) of Moores Hill and Thelma Hunt of Cincinnati. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.
