He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry B. Thien and Regina Thien (Birch). He is survived by: his children, David Thien, Gina Tyler and Stephanie Coakley (Billy); his grandchildren, Amanda Tyler, Michela Tyler and Cameron Coakley; and his sister Carol Sevedge (John).

Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations in Stephen's name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
