It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John D. Sytsma of Demotte, Indiana, born in Hammond, Indiana, who passed away on September 13, 2024, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John Sr. Sytsma and Jeannette Sytsma (Ooms); and his brothers, Donald and David Sytsma. He is survived by: his wife Karen Hanewich; his children, John Sytsma Jr. (Lauren), Staci Zohlen (Chris) and Scott Allyn Sytsma; his grandchildren, Ella, Aidric, Juliet, Cormac, Declan, Dylan and Larkin; and his sister-in-law Marcia Sytsma.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to DeMotte Christian School, a cause close to John's heart.
