He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert R. Hoecker and Margaret Hoecker (Grimm); his brother Leo Hoecker; and his stepsons, Paul Smit and Russell Smit.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Riedstra; his children, Scott Hoecker (Jacey), Bonnie Silver-Bren (Darrell Bren), Julie Fordon (James), Cindy Cook (John), Mark Smit (Jodi), Daniel Smit (Lori), James Smit (Cynthia) and Steve Smit (Nicole); and his sister Sandy Casey. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren.
