He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Mailand and Christine Mailand (Reiter); and his siblings, Wilmer "Bud" Mailand, Gertrude "Gert" Young, Dorothy Konow and Anita Stock.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Mailand of Decatur, Indiana; his children, Luanne Buchan (Dan) of Decatur, Indiana, Gwen Bura (Dennis) of Peachtree City, Georgia, Mitch Mailand (Sherri) of Hoagland, Indiana, Kayleen Huffman (William) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Rhonda Conrad (Larry) of Monroeville, Indiana, Carla Lantz (Roger) of Spencerville, Indiana and Myra Evans (Chris) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and his siblings-in-law, Don Konow of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Charlotte Hockemeyer of Hoagland, Indiana.. He is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren.
