He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo T. Gillig and Florence L. Gillig (Kohne); and his siblings, John Gillig and Rosemary Sheley. He is survived by: his siblings, David, Donald, Anthony, Gerald Gillig and Marcella Smith.

Visitation was held on Monday, November 4th 2024 from 9:20 AM to 10:00 AM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, November 4th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church (414 Madison St, Decatur, IN 46733).
