He was predeceased by: his wife Frieda Kayes; his parents, Kosmas Kougoufas and Anna Kougoufas; and his siblings, Peggy Terzes and Kosmas Kayes.
He is survived by: his children, Kevin David Kayes (late Elizabeth Stark), Thomas A. Kayes (Rebecca J.) and Lisa Ann Kayes (Casey Bartels); his grandchildren, Anna Kayes, Sara Henderson (James), Ashley Gard (Robert), Tommy Kayes (Tamara), Kimberly Kayes (Will Sasaki), Joseph Bartels (Electa), Elizabeth Burns (Joel), Drew Bartels (Rachelle), Lacey Goodwin (Alex), Reid Bartels (Esther) and Mattie Bartels; his great grandchildren, Ainslee and Rhett Gard; his sister Besse Naglosky; and his sister-in-law Joan Kayes. He is also survived by many other great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Thomas's name to the Wittenberg Village in Crown Point and the Ss.
