He was predeceased by: his father Edward L. Essex; his brother Jim Essex; and his brother-in-law George Sperka. He is survived by: his wife Leslie Essex; his daughters, Sarah Essex, Kathleen Lusk (Derek) and Beth Essex; his granddaughter Amelia Lusk; his sister Barbara Sperka; and his sisters-in-law, Dr. Diane D. Homan (William) and Rebecca Zurawski. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in John's name to First United Methodist Church for Vet Rock, to help veterans in the area.
