Alfeo Vittorini Obituary
Alfeo Vittorini, age 96, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
Alfeo is survived by his wife of 67 years, Norma Vittorini (nee Gentile); and his sons: Larry D. Vittorini and Ronald (Guy) Joseph Vittorini.
Alfeo was born on August 27, 1926 in Fagnano Alto, located in the Abruzzo province in central Italy. His father Gaetano was the first to immigrate to the United States in the great immigration wave of the 1920s.
After WWII in 1946, Alfeo, his mother Ida, his sister Fausta and brother Domenic emigrated to America. The eldest sister Anna, was a schoolteacher and remained in Italy and had three daughters Grazia, Ida and Leda.
Alfeo was preceded in death by his parents: Gaetano and Ida Vittorini; his sisters: Anna and Fausta; and his brother, Domenic.
Alfeo was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church no matter where he lived. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Alfeo was a former President for The American Italian Benevolent Society of Merrillville, Indiana and a President of the local Dante Alighieri Lodge of the Order of Sons of Italy. Alfeo’s profession was electricity, and he worked as an electrician for United States Steel, retiring after 43 years. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, serving during the period of the Korean War.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 E. Joliet St., Crown Point, IN 46307, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Service at 12:00 PM with Fr. Kevin Huber officiating. Private burial will take place at a later date.
