He was predeceased by: his son Robin Tomey; and his brothers, David and Herman. He is survived by: his parents, John William "Bill" Tomey and Laura Ruth Sanders Tomey; his wife Kathryn Tomey of Crawfordsville; his daughter Kathy Hubbard (Neil) of Lake Holiday; his daughter-in-law Cindy Tomey of Crawfordsville; his grandchildren, Sean Tomey (Kristina), Kristin Vallaly (Mike) and Kathryn Peachey; and his siblings, Elizabeth Walker (Allen) of Indianapolis, Hugh Tomey of Greenwood, Keith Tomey of Florida, Homer Tomey (Ann) of Greenwood, Linda Barnett of Martinsville, Brenda Warthen of Paragon, Steve Tomey of Martinsville and Russell Tomey (Carolyn) of Greenwood.
